Perhaps we should consider permitting our youngsters free expression (within bounds, which all of these are). If we choke them off we are exposing ourselves up to the risk of them either rebelling or withdrawing. My son went through a period when h only wore black. It passed in its own time.   1. I think it is good to have a standard. Skirts should not be too short. Offensive language or subject matter on t shirts should not be allowed. If “comfortable on my own skin” means your behind is hanging out, that is a problem. Uniforms solve the problem of what to wear, and eliminate the judgment and humiliation some kids feel when they don’t have the money to keep up with fashion trends. My elder two daughters went to Catholic school. Sone of the girls rolled their skirts so they’d be shorter. It isn’t conducive to learning for students to be scantily dressed. But obviously some of those rules are dumb. Uniforms solve the ambiguity.
